Beipiaosaurus was an early type of Therizinosaur. This group of feathered dinosaurs were members of the therapod family, that included T.rex, but they were mostly herbivores.

Beipiaosaurus was excavated in 1996 and formally described in 1999. It was the largest dinosaur confirmed to have had feathers until the Yutyrannus was described in 2012.
