Ouranosaurus was given a name meaning “brave lizard” because it was thought to have lived at the same time and location of two very dangerous alpha predators, Sprinosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus.

The sail on its back may have been used to manage its body temperature. When Ouranosaurus was hot, it would face away from the sun and in the direction of the wind that blew away the excess heat from its body. When cold, it would have the sail face the sun to warm up its body.
